aBOUT Crossfit free
CrossFit Free had its humble beginnings when Brandon Petersen and Justin Homsey opened its doors in 2011. Then, a modest 3700 sq ft facility with just 6 classes a day being offered (some without any actual members in them), 2 coaches and big dreams has since grown into its current 8500 sq ft facility with 10 classes offered daily; bustling with members, Crossfit Kids & Teens programs, 9 coaches, a close knit community, and numerous clubs and offerings.
CrossFit Free was Salem’s first CrossFit Box, and it will work hard to continue to be among the region’s best. In the short time it’s been since the doors opened, CrossFit Free has qualified to compete in both the 2013 and 2014 Reebok CrossFit Regionals- ranking 26th in the NorthEast in 2013, and 4th in 2014 after the Opens competition. CrossFit Free has competed at Regionals as a Team since 2012. Most recently, placing 7th as a Team in the Northeast, along with Coach Tasia qualifying for the 2016 CrossFit Games in Carson. Coach Chase Smith, tied for 5th at Regionals, but lost the tie breaker in order to qualify for Carson. He looks to make a big run this upcoming 2017 season.
Let it be known that there are a list of people a mile long that have aided in the growth and success of CrossFit Free, we are nothing without the support of our community. And in an effort to give credit where credit is due- let it be known we couldn’t have done it without the following people:
Melissa & Dallas Hartwig
Paul Petersen
Michelle Viara
Danny Vee
Johnny Lampost ( aka Meehan)
Bob Keefe
Alicia Landry
Lastly, as we grow, we appreciate all the help, encouragement, and belief we receive from our CFF family– a heartfelt thank you needs to be extended to those past and present- we are genuinely in awe of all that you do for us.
CrossFit Free… Live Free. Die Fit.
OUR GYM
We don’t have ellipticals or weight machines. No fancy locker rooms or “women only” areas, and certainly not any fitness “routines” performed to music wearing legwarmers or belly chains. Were a pretty simple, no thrills type of place.
When you walk in the door you’ll most likely encounter a smiling face before you make your way into the general area. Once there, you’ll notice we didn’t dump any money into an interior designer. We didn’t conduct any study’s to see which wall color the masses considered most welcoming or inviting. We also didn’t invest in a network of TV’s to take your mind off working out. We essentially did the complete opposite.
The walls are a neutral gray, aside from the stripe on the wall (you’ll find out its meaning later). The floor is covered with rubberized mats to absorb noise and vibration. If you happen to get there while the WOD is still take place, it might look something like organized chaos- barbells, kettlebells, jump ropes—maybe even the rowers are out, people buzzing around in every direction as the clock ticks away. When time is up you’ll notice a calm for a few split seconds. It’s the sense of accomplishment and hard work, coupled with silence that only fatigue can bring. It will grow on you. Soon it will bring you comfort.
We welcome you to take a look around our box and our equipment – but we know those aren’t the best part of our gym. They aren’t what will make you want to join. The environment is. Our community is.
We will equip you with just about everything you need to succeed and help you grow- no glitz and glam necessary.
THE FREE DIFFERENCE
Salem by no means is in need of another gym…but CrossFit Free isn’t a gym at all. It’s not a place where you reluctantly go after work, plug in your head phones to avoid unwanted interaction and do the same old routine. CrossFit Free is the Cheers’ of its industry. The place you can’t wait to go after work to unwind and release, where everyone knows your name and you feel a sense of belonging.
We offer classes at 5:15 am, 6:30 am, 8:30 am, 12:00 pm, 4:15pm, and 5:30pm on weekdays. And We also offer classes on Saturday at 7am, and 8:15 am. We offer more classes than any other CrossFit affiliate in the area.
Why?
Because we know you have a busy and hectic schedule, and since we have more motivated and highly experienced coaches than any other CrossFit facility, we have the ability to offer more classes than other facilities.
STRENGTH IN COMMUINITY
The strength of CrossFit Free lies in our community. From Halloween parties to fitness competitions, our members are more than just fitness junkies.
Fitness is something that should make your life better; it’s not something we think should dominate your life. We believe it’s important to be well-rounded people-people who can wear multiple hats. Our members know how to work hard and in turn let loose and socialize with friends.
Not to mention, we have learned that members who are engaged in the community are more positive. There is something to be said about surrounding yourself with a diverse group of people and finding commonality
